How To Use Kratom Powder – All You Need to Know

Kratom is a plant that is commonly found in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and elsewhere around the Pacific Rim. Whilst Kratom may be a new concept to Westerners, using Kratom in traditional medicine is an ancient practice in these locations, the practice is so old that we aren’t actually sure when it first started.

What Does Kratom Powder Do?

In traditional medicine, Kratom has been used to sooth aches, pains, fevers, diarrhoea and even in some cases manage addiction. Comparison can be drawn from indigenous people chewing on coca for energy in the Andes as Kratom can be used in the same way. Kratom produces similar effects on the body as if you were to take an opiate such as codeine. You can learn more about it at Kratom Crazy.

How Do You Take Kratom Powder?

Kratom powder is one of the most versatile ways to take Kratom. If you don’t like the idea of purchasing leaves to brew in tea, powder is the perfect way to take Kratom. You can infuse the powder into a variety of things.

Don’t Heat The Powder!

Kratom, like all medicines are a fragile combination of chemicals so avoid heating the powder, look to infuse instead. Infusing requires limited heat and it means that you can add it to cold brew coffee, stir it into your morning porridge or mix it in to your homemade granola bars. You can also add it into post workout protein shakes.

When To Take Kratom Powder

Kratom usually takes between five and ten minutes to start working on your body. If you have taken a low dose (around 10mg) you will have increased energy and you may find yourself more at ease with social situations.

A higher dose will result in a decrease of pain and feelings of calm. A dose of Kratom can be felt for between two to five hours, depending on how much you have taken as well as how your body metabolises it. Kratom can also have psychotropic effects on the body, this depends on dose and how you react to taking the plant, but hallucinations have been reported in some users.

What Are The Side Effects of Kratom?

Depending on the dose taken, the side effects of Kratom can vary. Some people reported nausea, dry mouth, constipation, itching and loss of appetite.  People who have been taking high doses of Kratom for extended periods were more likely to report more serious issues such as psychosis.

Is Kratom Legal?

Currently, there is no in-depth clinical studies on Kratom and the long-lasting impacts on the human body. Because of this, it is still categorised as being legal in the United States. The FDA currently has Kratom listed as a dietary supplement, but this may change with increased research and advanced understanding of the plant.

Is Kratom Safe?

Like any drugs, people can react badly them; some users have reported that after taking high level doses for extended periods of time that they have suffered from seizures, tremors, psychosis and other serious toxic effects. Kratom does not mix well with other drugs. Deaths have been reported from people who are already taking prescription medicine and then took Kratom.

Overdosing is possible on Kratom, if you take too much of it, your body will bypass the relaxed, calm and euphoric stage and you can lose consciousness. It has been reported that Kratom can impact your respiratory system; therefore overdosing on Kratom can be dangerous.

Currently the FDA classify Kratom as a dietary supplement, this is on the basis that A) one of the side effects of taking Kratom reduces appetite and B) there are limited, if no clinical studies into the long-term impacts of Kratom on overall health and wellbeing.

Most evidence at the moment is anecdotal and it is clear that Kratom needs more research in order to fully understand its long-term impact on the human body and how these impacts can be mitigated. What we can be sure of is that we will see an increase in Kratom products available in Western markets. So, if you are thinking about Kratom, understand that there may well be adverse effects when you take it, some of which haven’t been thoroughly understood yet.
